Christopher Yap

MD of Business Banking, AmBank

Christopher Yap holds a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University, USA and he brings with him close to 20 years of experience in the financial services industry with specific focus in the SME and Commercial segments. Christopher started his early career in Trade Services at Citibank Berhad Malaysia. Prior to joining AmBank Group, he held the position of Head of SME Banking with Alliance Bank. Under his helm, the SME business accounted for 25% of revenue for the bank. One of Christopher’s key achievements recently was when he and his team won the award for “Best SME Bank in Asia Pacific 2015” from The Asian Banker.

Datuk Kamal Khalid

Group Managing Director of Media Prima Berhad

Datuk Kamal Khalid is the Group Managing Director of Media Prima Berhad since 2 August 2017.
He has been with Media Prima since May 2009 and had held various positions including Chief Executive Officer, Television Networks, Chief Operating Officer, Group Shared Services and Chief Operating Officer, Business Development and International.
Prior to that, he served as Head of the Communications Unit in the Prime Minister’s Office for 6 years. He had also worked in the financial services sector in banking and private equity financing and at the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now Bursa Malaysia).
Currently, Datuk Kamal sits as a member in various organisations, such as a Council member of the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia, a board member of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and also an Advisory Board member of the Asian Television Awards since 2016.
He received his secondary education in MRSM Muar, Johor and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (with Honors) Degree from the University of Nottingham, England. He was selected to become Malaysia’s Eisenhower Fellow for 2005.

Datuk Ahmad Izham Bin Omar

Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar is a multi award-winning music producer, arranger, songwriter and musician.  He started the legendary Positive Tone record label in 1994, and also launched a world class video portal called ‘tonton’ (heralded as a breakthrough by the global industry when tonton was first introduced to the market in 2010).

Datuk Ahmad was awarded the Most Promising Entrepreneur Award by Enterprise Asia and was accepted as a delegate in the prestigious Asia Society 21 Young Leader’s Summit. Amongst his many accolades, he was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Voice of Independent Music Awards (“VIMA”) for his contribution to music.

Datuk Ahmad also serves as Chairman of the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (“CMCF”) and has a monthly column in the New Straits Times called “For The Record” where he talks about all things music and creativity.

Dato’ SY Cheah

President of Baskin Robbins Malaysia

Born and raised in a humble fishing village in Perak, Dato’ SY Cheah is a self-made entrepreneur. He is well known among his peers for his sharp observation skills, his capability to see opportunity in every difficulty, and most of all, his very discerning taste in food. After 10 years in the building material business, Dato’ Cheah fell in love with the taste of
Baskin-Robbins during his honeymoon in the United States. He then founded Golden Scoop Sdn. Bhd., the company awarded as the sole licensee for Baskin-Robbins in Malaysia.
Dato’ Cheah had the foresight that rapid economic growth would lead young Malaysians to seek for quality lifestyle products. With a strong belief that “Malaysians would be willing to pay a
higher price for good and quality food”, Dato’ Cheah opened his first Baskin-Robbins outlet in Subang Parade in 1988, despite scepticism from various parties that RM2.50 a scoop would sell
at that time.

By insisting on fully imported ice cream and toppings from the United States to maintain the best quality, the brand has won the hearts of many Malaysians. The brand then expanded in major
cities nationwide. It is a brand that thrives for 72 years in most metropolitan cities, and a 29-year old company that survived the 1997 economic crisis. “Nothing motivates us harder than to
withstand the test of time.” Dato’ Cheah attributed the success to the company’s inclusive culture, which engages the right people to manage its business operations.

Prof Dr Nur Naha

Dean, UTM-Azman Hashim International Business School

Nur Mansor is currently the Dean of Azman Hashim International Business School. She is also a Business Information Systems faculty at the Azman Hashim International Business School, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia. Lectures on the DBA and MBA programme on Strategic and Innovation Change, Managing IT for Business, CSR and Sustainability and have a keen interest in researching on business information systems, learning and development, and organisational change and development. Formally, took up a Corporate Relationship and Social Responsibility Director role with six years experience leading industry and corporate social responsibility engagements and collaboration in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Spearheaded the university corporate strategic planning office engagements across NKEAs with multiple stakeholders such as government bodies, MNCs, GLCs and SMEs for research and development, learning and development, and services of innovation projects leveraging on wide expertise of faculties. Extensive knowledge of stakeholder engagement and needs analysis for corporate social responsibility needs across national and international communities such as projects in Lao, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Secured collective RM4million research and development projects across multiple stakeholders in the last year and a total of 10 million in the last 4 years. Annual achievement of performance income of RM20 million on organization wide industry linkages and CSR projects across key economic areas. Authored and steered an impact analysis star rating framework to measure industry and community projects sustainability and social return on investments (SROI) analysis.

Rafiq Razali

CEO of Media Prima Digital

Rafiq Razali, a Malaysian aged 31, joined the Group on 15 April 2016 as the Chief Executive Officer of Media Prima Digital (“MPD”).He who holds a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) in Actuarial Science from Pennsylvania State University, United States of America, has a comprehensive experience in business development and strategic planning. His track record includes establishing start-up companies related to digital and information technology.His career in information technology began with Maxis Berhad where he held various positions that included responsibilities in the International Data Wholesale division as well as the Corporate Strategy division. In 2011, Rafiq was part of the team which formed Groupon Malaysia. Groupon is an e-commerce company based in United States, connecting customers with local merchants in more than 28 countries including Malaysia. He was promoted to Country General Manager for Malaysia in 2013,following an impressive run of performance by the outfit.In 2015, Rafiq and a group of investors established KFit, a Malaysian start-up company that provides a mobile application for users to plan their wellness activities such as gym membership, fitness studios and related activities. KFit today boasts operations in eight countries across Asia Pacific. He was the Vice President and a founding shareholder of KFit.His appointment as MPD CEO is in line with the Media Prima’s commitment to further consolidate its position as the largest integrated media group in Malaysia, providing the Group with numerous opportunities to introduce more innovative solutions to fulfil the ever-changing needs of its customers.

Kim Boey is a sales & marketing veteran experienced in the industries of Property, Logistics and Information & Communications Technology (ICT). Kim focused primarily on B2B segment covering marketing & product strategy, sales management, business development, and telemarketing. A leader with over 2 decades of talent acquisition and development experience, Kim has lead teams locally and across Asia Pacific Japan.

Aligned with Malaysia’s SME Masterplan, Kim’s charter in Microsoft is to help drive digital transformation across small and medium enterprises, through creating awareness, education and recommending the right technology to propel growth locally and in the global stage.

Perry Ong

Country Manager, Mastercard Malaysia and Brunei

As the Country Manager of Mastercard in Malaysia and Brunei, Perry Ong is focused on driving core business growth, maximizing the potential of new and emerging payment innovations as well as enhancing relationships with industry players and key customers covering both bank and non-bank institutions.

He brings to the industry 20 years of experience and extensive knowledge in payments and financial services in the market, having previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of AmCard Services Bhd and Senior Vice President of International Solutions, focusing on remittances and bureau de change, before his last posting as Head of Business segment and Senior Vice President of SME Banking.

He has also served as Chairman and Advisor of the National Cards Group in Malaysia.

Chiau Haw Choon

Group Managing Director of Chin Hin Group Berhad

Chiau Haw Choon is the Group Managing Director of Chin Hin Group Berhad, a billion-ringgit turnover building material conglomerate that covers not only trading but also manufacturing and services to the construction and building industries. Graduated from Deakin University, Australia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Marketing in April 2009, Haw Choon promptly began the journey of transforming Chin Hin from a very traditional, family owned business to an innovative and professionally-run corporation.

From cement trading, Haw Choon further expanded the business by acquiring seven different businesses, including wire mesh, metal roofing, concrete blocks, concrete pipes, modular homes and solar energy production. The group has also ventured into property development. Within a decade, he has led Chin Hin Group to grow from RM392 million to RM1.3 billion turnover, from 70 employees to over 700 employees, and subsequently to be listed in the main board of Bursa Malaysia in March 2016, making him the youngest listed company CEO at age 32.

As a visionary and dynamic leader, Haw Choon plays an instrumental role in the establishment of proper procedures, systems and controls of corporate governance as the Group continues to expand rapidly. His vision is to transform the business from the provision of building materials towards a business solution provider. In December 2017, Haw Choon was crowned The EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 Malaysia, breaking the 16 years of EY award record as the youngest country winner at age 33. He was also crowned the EY Emerging EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 Malaysia. By June this year, he will be representing Malaysia to participate in the EY World Entrepreneur of The Year in Monte Carlo

Teh Wee Chye

Managing Director, Malayan Flour Mills

Mr Teh Wee Chye, aged 65, a Malaysian, was appointed to the Board as an Executive Director of the Company in 1989 and subsequently the Managing Director of the Company in 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Ship Building and Shipping Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In the summer of 1974, he received his training at the American Bureau of Shipping Research & Development Department, New York. Upon graduation in 1975 he was employed as an Engineer with Eastern Steamship (S) Pte Ltd, Singapore. He joined Malayan Flour Mills Berhad in 1976 as the Deputy Mill Manager and was promoted to Plant Manager soon after. In 1979 he was placed as Project Manager in charge of the Company’s entire expansion plans. In 1992, he spearheaded the market entry into Vietnam by building the first flour mill in Vietnam and became its first General Director. Amongst his social and charitable activities, he is also a director of Seu Teck Sean Tong Charitable Organisation Berhad. Until recently, he was a long-time committee member of the Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Teochew Association.
